Time Immemorial
There is ample evidence that Squamish and other First Nations climbed the mountains throughout their territories. Evidence found at many archaeological sites date back through 10,000 years – traces deposited by ancestors hunting, practicing spiritual pursuits, and gathering local plants and rocks. Squamish Nation people have ventured into the mountains throughout many centuries. In 2005, a traditional cedar carved house post was placed in the alpine area of the Squamish Cheakamus divide to proclaim a constant presence.
