Geared for Grouse

Even in winter snows, a woman climbing Grouse Mountain in 1909 did not wear trousers – she wore the bloomers that normally were concealed beneath her skirt. Home-made bindings secured her feet to skis, stockings helped warm her lower legs while her boots extended above the ankle. A cap, sweater, scarf and gloves completed her ensemble.
