Garibaldi First Ascent

The team that made the first recorded climb to the top of Garibaldi in 1907 did not have much specialized climbing gear. Three of the party posed on the mountain summit wearing goggles, with their hemp rope, and the Union Jack flag hoisted on an alpenstock. The flag, and an ice axe* carried by J.J.Trorey, (middle of the photo) survive as mementos of the occasion.
