First Map

As a mountaineer, you want to know where you’re going – and how to get back. Most early mountaineering summer camps from Vancouver were held in the Mount Garibaldi area, though no accurate maps of the region yet existed.

Billy Gray spent the summer of 1912 recording information with plane-table and camera. This first detailed map of the region came out the same year, much to his fellow climbers’ appreciation.
