Mountain Conservation

Mountaineers love mountains and wilderness. No surprise that they often lead the way in establishing parks. Early efforts saw Mt. Garibaldi become a park. Since the 1970s, mountaineers have formed the Federation of Mountain Clubs’ Conservation Committee and also worked with other organizations. They have attended endless meetings with government agencies and fought hard to create a broad pro-conservation groundswell. Thanks to these efforts areas like the Stein, Tantalus, Chilko Lake, Pinecone-Burke and Stoltman Wilderness Areas have achieved conservation status. Related topic: Garibaldi’s Park
